About

Anchor Scholarship Foundation

Freedom is not free…it’s paid for in the sacrifice of the extraordinary men and women defending our nation. Service members do not bear this responsibility alone. Their families face unique challenges during frequent deployments, multiple moves and schools. All families face hard challenges, but military family challenges redefine hard.

Anchor Scholarship Foundation recognizes the impressive accomplishments of these families. Since 1980, more than $1,500,000 in scholarships have been awarded to more than 1,300 eligible family members.

These scholarships go beyond just mitigating the cost for a college education or certificate program, they validate the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of some amazing people.

Anchor scholarships are awarded based upon an equal weighting of academic performance, character, extracurricular activities and financial need. There are several different types of scholarships; all of which can be applied for online with ONE scholarship application.

Flag lays across uniform

Anchor Scholarship Foundation exists to make college more affordable for Surface Navy families. It’s an investment in deserving scholars and everything that they will bring to our communities, to this country and to the world.

In 1980, the SURFLANT Scholarship Foundation was chartered by the Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet Officer’s Wives Club to provide financial assistance to qualified dependents of current and former members of the Naval Surface Forces, Atlantic.

Through increased donations over the years, support of Fleet personnel, and successful fundraising efforts and events, the Foundation grew. With its growth and success, the time had come to expand the Foundation to include Naval Surface Forces, Pacific, which did not have a similar scholarship program.

On July 1, 2004 the SURFLANT Scholarship Foundation was rechartered to encompass both commands and provide scholarship opportunities for all Naval Surface Force dependents. And so it became the Anchor Scholarship Foundation.

This year, Anchor Scholarship Foundation was able to distribute 41 scholarships totaling over $139,000.
