I felt such joy when I read the email that I have been chosen as an Anchor Scholar. What a blessing! What a privilege! I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in psychology thirty years ago, and I now get to see my master’s in counseling coming to fruition. This scholarship is a gateway to my dreams being fulfilled.

When I was a new Navy wife, my husband and I had the opportunity to attend a ship’s christening in San Diego. When I saw the ship’s sponsor crash the glass against the bow, I excitedly told my husband, “I want to do that!” As a young E-5, he chuckled, assuring me he would never be a rank that would give me that chance. We have laughed about that exchange over the years.

You can imagine my delight when I read that my scholarship is sponsored by the Society of Sponsors of the U.S. Navy. I felt such a connection to that experience I observed over 20 years ago, and now I am the recipient of the generosity of these amazing women. I am truly thankful to the Society of Sponsors and the Anchor Scholarship Foundation.
