First, this is an honor to be able to accept, especially because my
father served with Billy Hurley. It’s so awesome to know that my father
served alongside such a well-respected, generous, and hardworking
shipmate. This is truly a full circle moment where a single man can touch
many lives including that of a father and then years later a daughter.

To continue, this scholarship will allow me to pursue my dreams. I
want to be a therapist that can help people. To be a therapist however, it
requires a lot of schooling and with a lot of schooling comes the concern of
how to pay for it all. Now I no longer have to worry about crippling debt but
am able to attend college and learn about my passion. I plan to be a therapist
that works with children as I often struggled as a military child after moving
so many times. It would feel isolating and difficult to make new friends in a
new place every two years. So, I hope to use my education to help children
who might be struggling with the same feelings that I once also felt. It makes
me so happy that I will get the proper schooling and education I need to be
able to pursue this goal of helping children who have gone through similar
experiences as me. I will continue to work hard and use this scholarship to
propel me towards the future I have dreamed.

Finally, this scholarship will allow me to attend my dream school
and make the absolute best of my time there. In every way I plan to use my
time at college to make lasting impacts in my life and the lives of others. I
hope to get involved in clubs, at church, in volunteer programs, and oncampus
social events so I can create lasting relationships with students and
professors. This scholarship will allow me to be able to take advantage of all
the career, educational, and professional opportunities college has to offer.
