“I see this scholarship as being my first big step into college, and by extension, my adult life. I plan to use this scholarship to pay for the early entry program at UCSB, so it will be enabling my first foray into life outside of home. I think that this will be an especially pivotal experience for me, as much of my life has been centered at home up to this point, and I think that this scholarship will ensure a smooth transition as I move out on my own. I am incredibly glad that the managers of the Anchor Scholarship Foundation found my effort and qualities worthwhile for support. I am confident in my personal capability, but I was still fearful that I would not receive aid, as this has been the only scholarship awarded to me thus far.

Nevertheless, I now feel lighter than air and all the more ready for the next chapter in my life. I intend to use every bit of the scholarship so that I can have a strong start to my next four years of education, and I will
do so with a big smile, knowing that I earned this support with my work. My parents and I have the means to pay the program cost out of pocket, but the fact that it will mostly be covered because of my effort is hugely affirming. The move will invariably be rocky, as I will have to get used to a new environment and being away from home, but I now have no questions as to my ability to do so.
